* Final year examinations of universities will be held, the dates should be fixed by the State Government in consultation with UGC;  Major Supreme Court Decision *

In the wake of the Corona health crisis, will there be university final year, final session exams or not?  The apex court, while ruling on the issue today, said the examination could not be canceled.  The court has now spoken to the UGC and directed the state government to postpone the examination dates.  However, it is not appropriate to pass degree students directly without examinations.  They will have to take an exam.  Meanwhile, students will now have to start studying to cope with the exams.

But one of the reassuring things is that there is no obligation to take the exam till September 30.  The state government can decide the exam dates based on Kovid's condition.  They will have to talk to the UGC to extend the time.  Meanwhile, the UGC had directed to conduct the examination by the end of September 2020 as per the guidelines issued on July 6.  But this was challenged by the Yuva Sena in Maharashtra.  At the same time, the Government of Maharashtra, the Government of Delhi, the Government of West Bengal and the Government of Odisha had expressed their inability to conduct the examination, saying that it was dangerous to call the students to the examination centers in view of the present situation of Covid 19.

The case is being heard before a bench of Justices Ashok Bhushan, Subhash Reddy and MR Shah in the Supreme Court today.  Meanwhile, along with Yuva sena, various student organization ns, teachers and non-teaching classes across the country have also filed petitions.  The UGC insists on taking the exam even during Corona.  The state government had appealed to the UGC to conduct the exam online, offline or in combination.  The Maharashtra government had earlier ordered that the final year results of the students be given by giving average marks without taking the exam.

The apex court had earlier heard petitions seeking postponement of JEE, NEET, Maharashtra CET exam 2020 as well.  In ruling on the matter, the court has ordered that the examination be conducted with due diligence.
